Starting School

Is Slindon my local school?

Our school serves a large rural area, which includes the villages of Slindon and Eartham.  For this reason there is a school bus which transports some children to and from school each day.

starting school at Slindon1Do you take children from outside your area?

Yes.  About 50% of the children at the school live in the Parish of Slindon, Eartham and Madehurst, whilst the remaining children travel from as far as Chichester, Bognor and Littlehampton.

Can I come and look around the school?

With pleasure.  Please ring the school to make an appointment.

When can my child start school?

Children in West Sussex may start school at the beginning of the school year in which they reach their fifth birthday.  Admission to school is co-ordinated by the West Sussex County Council Admissions Team.  For some children school will begin on a part time basis.  The pattern of attendance for schools in our locality in West Sussex is as follows:-

Children with a birthday in September, October, November, December and January are admitted full-time in September.

Children with a birthday in February, March, April, May, June, July and August are admitted part-time in the Autumn Term and full-time from January.

My child isn’t due to start school for a few years: can I put his/her name on the waiting list?

In the September before your child is due to start school you will be sent information explaining the process.  If you do not receive this information you should contact the West Sussex County Council Admission Team.

We’ve recently moved into the area and have a school age child.  Is there space at your school?

Please contact us and we will be able to tell you whether there is a space in your child’s year group.
